What is Counselling?
Counselling is a place where you can talk about your difficulties in a confidential, non judgemental space for you to decide and empower you to make the changes that you would like to make in your life.
Initially we will have a consultation to decide if Counselling is appropriate for your difficulties and how best to achieve your desired outcome. I will gather some personal information from you. This helps me get to know you and enable me to decide if I have the skills and knowledge to support you. It’s also an opportunity for you to meet me and decide if you woud like to work with me.
I am trained to work with your difficulties in different ways and will work with you to support you to achieve your desired outcome.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic Counselling is about building a trusting relationship and looks at how your childhood expereince may be impacting you in the present day. Some of this may be conscious that you are already aware of, this may also be unconscious at the time of coming into therapy and through the work you may remember relationship difficulties or life experiences from the past and have the opportunity to work through this to make sense of and understand your difficulties along with have the opportunity to achieve your desired outcome in the work in a safe and trusting working relationship.
Person Centred
Person Centred Counselling is about building a trusting working relationship and I will work with you to offer you the space to explore your unique experience of the world and explore your thoughts, feelings behaviours empower you to find the solutions to your difficulties. This may be a crisis that is happening in the present day or this may be something from the past that is affecting you in the present day such as relationships. This may be helpful if your difficulties are affecting your life in more than one area.
CBT
CBT is used to help you look at how a difficulty is affecting you and together look at the how you would like to work with this enabling you to work towards your desired outcome, this can be helpful if your diffiulty is affecting one area of your life and you do not want to focus on any other areas of your life.
